Barbara Lightner, DVM, DACVS-SA

Regional Medical Director

Barbara Lightner, DVM, Diplomate, ACVS-SA, serves as a Regional Medical Director with direct responsibility for overseeing Medical Directors in Connecticut, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. In this role, Dr. Lightner is a collaborative leader working in partnership with colleagues at all levels to live MedVet’s values of teamwork, leadership, and compassion and mission of Leading Specialty Healthcare for Pets.

Dr. Barbara Lightner has spent more than 30 years serving the veterinary profession, bringing collaborative, comprehensive, and compassionate care and leadership to each new role and opportunity. She co-founded Capital Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center, now MedVet Hilliard, which started her career with MedVet in 2014 as Medical Director and as a surgeon for MedVet Hilliard. Prior to stepping into the Regional Medical Director role in 2021, Dr. Lightner also served as the Director of Medical Recruiting. Additionally, she assisted in developing MedVet’s Emergency Clinician Mentorship Program (ECMP).

Dr. Lightner attended The Ohio State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Additionally, she completed an internship and residency at The Ohio State University.

When away from work, Dr. Lightner enjoys reading, spending time with her grandchildren, and competing with her four horses on the national level.
