Michael Podell, DVM, MSC, DACVIM (Neurology)

Senior Vice President, Healthcare

Michael Podell, DVM, MSc, Diplomate, ACVIM (Neurology), serves as Senior Vice President of Healthcare for MedVet. In this role, Dr. Podell utilizes his extensive experience and vast network to provide strategic guidance and advance doctor wellbeing for MedVet caregivers and the broader veterinary profession. He also contributes his expertise and perspective to healthcare related special projects and is a member of the MedVet Board of Directors. Dr Podell previously served as Chief Medical Officer for MedVet between 2019 and 2023.

Dr. Podell’s educational journey began at the University of North Carolina in 1980 where he received the first of many academic achievements, a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Psychology with Honors. Immediately following graduation, he attended Tel-Aviv University and was awarded a Master of Science in Physiology and Pharmacology graduating Magna cum laude in 1982. In 1988, Dr. Podell earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Tufts University. He then completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at The Animal Medical Center in New York City, followed by a residency in neurology and neurosurgery at The Ohio State University.

Following his board-certification, Dr. Podell received the Certificate of Recognition in Neurosurgical Expertise. Prior to MedVet, Dr. Michael Podell was a Full Professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences and Department of Neuroscience at The Ohio State University until 2002, when he moved to Chicago to open the area’s first veterinary neurology and neurosurgery practice. He became a MedVet founding partner in 2015.

During his free time, Dr. Podell enjoys spending time with his family, Peloton and outdoor bike riding, and traveling.
