John G. Gordon, DVM, Diplomate, ACVD, is a Veterinary Dermatologist at MedVet Columbus as well as the Dermatology Specialty Leader for MedVet. He has been on staff since 1994. Dr. Gordon The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine where he earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Following his graduation from veterinary school, Dr. Gordon completed a yearlong internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York and a three-year residency in small animal dermatology at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
After becoming a board-certified Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology, Dr. Gordon was a Clinical Instructor at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine before joining the MedVet team.
Dr. Gordon has become a leader and well-known figure in the veterinary community. He has participated in several clinical trials involving the use of synthetic retinoid etretinate (Tegison) and the vitamin D metabolite calcitriol (Rocaltrol) for the treatment of primary canine seborrhea. He also developed a method of evaluating corneocytes that has been used in evaluation of antiseborrheic shampoos. He is the author of scientific papers published in veterinary publications including The Journal of Veterinary Dermatology.
He is an active advocate of continued education for veterinary professionals and has lectured on small animal dermatology topics at national and regional conferences including the World Congress of Veterinary Dermatology, the Western States National Veterinary Conference, the Midwest Veterinary Conference, and multiple regional and local veterinary association meetings.
Under Dr. Gordon’s direction, MedVet offers one of the most comprehensive skin allergy tests in the United States, venomous insect testing and various immunotherapies, including “rush immunotherapy.” Dr. Gordon has a passion for connecting with his clients and patients which is crucial in successfully managing chronic and recurrent skin diseases.
Dr. Gordon has been a guest of “Dog Talk” and “Cat Chat” on Martha Stewart Radio and his work has been published in Veterinary Dermatology. He has developed a nonprescription line of veterinary shampoos, GordonMacIntyre shampoo, available in the United States and Canada. (GordonMacIntyre.com). When not treating patients, Dr. Gordon enjoys playing golf with long-time friends, photographing the National Parks, and reading. He visits the local library at least twice a week and his interests include classic fiction and science non-fiction.
