Jusmeen Sarkar, DVM, MS, Diplomate, ACVAA is a Veterinary Anesthesiologist who joined the MedVet Chicago team in November 2019. Dr. Sarkar earned two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Biology and Anthropology from the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY followed by her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in Ithaca, NY. Following her graduation from veterinary school, Dr. Sarkar completed a yearlong rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists in New York, NY. She then completed a residency in veterinary anesthesia and analgesia at Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in East Lansing, MI.
Since completing her residency, Dr. Sarkar has authored and co-authored numerous scientific papers including Intravenous Tramadol: Effects, Nociceptive Properties, and Pharmacokinetics in Horses published in the Journal of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia; Tramadol in the Horse: A Preliminary Report on its Detection, Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics Responses; Michigan Veterinary Medical Association Newsletter Case of the Month: “Anesthesia Machine Malfunction;” and A Comparison of Two Techniques for Brachial Plexus Blockade in Dogs. She has also written a chapter on anesthesia and infectious disease in Canine and Feline Anesthesia and Co-Existing Disease, 1st edition.
Dr. Sarkar maintains active memberships with several veterinary professional organizations, including the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), and the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA).
She maintains a special interest in several aspects of anesthesia and analgesia including pain management, locoregional anesthesia/analgesia, non-pharmacologic therapies for pain and rehabilitation, traditional Chinese medicine, technician training, patient safety, respiratory physiology, critical care sedation, and feline medicine. Dr. Sarkar’s favorite part of practicing veterinary medicine is recognizing and respecting the scope of its impact on the world.
When she isn’t practicing veterinary medicine, Dr. Sarkar enjoys cooking, baking, crafting, and painting.
